June 10, Fineko/abc.az. The plan to issue a Bulgarian commemorative coin of 2 euro dedicated to the Cyrillic alphabet has been blocked in the EU Council by one of the member states.

ABC.AZ informs that the coin was supposed to be released in the second half of 2026.

The project involved a design with Cyrillic letters and the inscription "Bulgarian alphabet" as a sign of Bulgaria's contribution to development of the Cyrillic alphabet. Despite the objections, the coin remains in the numismatic plans for 2026, although the specific country that blocked the initiative has not been disclosed.
