June 8, Fineko/abc.az. State-owned company Oil India has announced the discovery of natural gas deposits after drilling exploration well Vijayapuram-3 on the continental shelf off the east coast of the Andaman Islands.
ABC.AZ reports that the well is located in the AN-OSHP-2018/1 block at depth of about 355 m, and the tests were carried out at depth of nearly 1,900 m. During the work, an influx of gas and an increase in reservoir pressure were recorded, which confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons.
The company notes that it is analyzing the composition and characteristics of the gas, and the commercial value of the discovery has not yet been determined. This is the second successful result: gas was previously detected in another well in the same block.
The project is part of India's deepwater exploration program aimed at expanding the country's resource base and reducing dependence on energy imports.
