June 8, Fineko/abc.az. As of today, the operatorship of the Baku–Supsa oil pipeline with length of 837 km has been transferred to Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Georgia.

ABC.AZ informs that starting from June 8, the company transfers the operatorship of the Azerbaijani and Georgian sections of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline to its owners in these countries.

As previously reported by Gordon Birrell, BP's vice president of production and operations, the transfer of control does not mean that BP is withdrawing from the project. He added that this step is fulfillment of the obligation arising from the agreements signed about 10 years ago.

Birrell stressed that the transfer of operatorship of the Baku–Supsa oil pipeline in each country to the government or its designated operator is provided for by the agreement. He noted that this process is not an initiative of BP, but follows from the requirements of existing agreements.

The BP representative also stated that the transfer of the operatorship of the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline will be carried out on the basis of a separate agreement, which is expected to take place in early July.
