China Sharply Increased Gold Reserves in May

June 8, Fineko/abc.az. In May, the People's Bank of China expanded its gold reserves by 320,000 troy ounces, bringing the total to 74.96 million ounces, which marks the highest monthly increase since late 2024.

ABC.AZ reports that a previously comparable growth rate was recorded in December 2024, when reserves rose by 330,000 ounces.

Throughout 2026, China has consistently scaled up its gold purchases: by 40,000 ounces in January, 30,000 ounces in February, 160,000 ounces in March, and 260,000 ounces in April.
