June 1, Fineko/abc.az. The decarbonization of the economy will take time for the European Union.

ABC.AZ reports that the statement was made at the 31st Baku Energy Forum by Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of the Energy Platform and International Relations Group at the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission (ENER).

She noted that our goals are calculated until 2050. During this period, the EU will continue to import both gas and oil.

Borrero also stressed the strategic importance of Azerbaijan during the transition period:

"Azerbaijan has become a strategic partner for us in gas supplies through the Southern Gas Corridor. Over the past four years, we have increased gas supplies to the European Union via the Southern Gas Corridor by 40%. And this is especially important in the context of diversification, when we have replaced all Russian gas on our territory."
