April 22, Fineko/abc.az. Germany's largest airline Lufthansa will cut around 20,000 short-haul flights in the summer to reduce the cost of aviation fuel, the price of which has more than doubled.

ABC.AZ informs that the reasons also include the closure of unprofitable division CityLine, decommissioning of 27 aircrafts and labor disputes.

The company expects savings of about 40,000 tons of fuel (approx. 1% of passenger traffic), is reviewing the European route network and closing some flights from Frankfurt and Munich, while expanding destinations from Zurich, Brussels and Vienna.

In the industry, the increase in costs is attributed to restrictions on oil supplies due to the situation in the Middle East and the risks of fuel shortages.
