April 3, Fineko/abc.az. Steffen Kotre, an Alternative for Germany (AfD) Bundestag member, said that in the coming years Germany could again use nuclear power as the only way to reduce co₂ emissions without harming the economy.
ABC.AZ informs that he noted that up to eight nuclear power plants can be put back into operation at relatively low cost, and nuclear energy remains economically profitable. New technologies, including small modular reactors, are also being considered.
At the same time, Chancellor Friedrich Merz considers the abandonment of nuclear energy to be final, although a number of politicians, including Markus Zeder, advocate its return amid rising energy prices.
Germany decided to abandon nuclear power plants after the Fukushima-1 accident and finally closed the last stations in 2023.
