September 23, Fineko/abc.az. An agreement on opening mutual accounts has been signed between the National Depository Center (NDC) of Azerbaijan and the Central Securities Depository of Kazakhstan.

The agreement was signed by the chairmen of the boards of both organizanizations within the World Forum of Central Depositories in Almaty, ABC.AZ reports with reference to the NDC.

This initiative aims to expand cross-border access between the capital markets of both countries. The newly-created direct communication mechanism will provide investors with direct access to the stock markets of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, will give impetus to development of cross-border investments and deeper financial integration.

Thanks to cooperation between depositories, market participants will be able to store securities directly on nominal depository accounts of central depositories and efficiently make payments. This will create new opportunities for Kazakhstani investors to enter the Azerbaijani market, and for Azerbaijani investors to enter the Kazakh market.

The initiative also serves to diversify investment portfolios and further strengthen cooperation between the financial markets of the two neighboring countries. After completion of all necessary technical procedures, the inter-depository infrastructure is to be fully operational.

This step is being taken towards expanding inter-institutional relations provided for in the NDC Development Strategy 2024-2026.
