Gas supplies to Italy via TAP this year unveiled

12:07 - 5.08.2025

August 5, Fineko/abc.az. Nearly 4.8 bcm of natural gas were delivered to Italy via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in the 1st half of 2025 (the figure corresponds to supplies for Jan-Jun 2024 – approx. 15% of overall gas imports to Italy), according to Snam, one of the shareholders of TAP AG.

"A new stage of optional market testing has started to assess interest in potential expansion of pipeline's capacity," company’s statement says.

TAP gas pipeline carries gas from Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 877 km pipeline connects to the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border (Kipoi), thus crossing Greece and Albania, then the Adriatic Sea, reaching the southern coast of Italy.

TAP provides gas supplies to the countries of Southeastern Europe through existing and potential interconnectors. TAP is also connected to the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB), which was commissioned in October 2022, and supplies Caspian gas to Bulgaria. TAP's expansion to Greece and Albania, as well as to the southern coast of Italy, opens up additional opportunities for Azerbaijani gas to enter larger European markets.
TAP's shareholders are BP (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (20%), Enagas (20%).
