OpenAI has attracted $40 billion in investments

April 2, Fineko/abc.az. OpenAI, the developer ofchatbot ChatGPT, has announced the closure of a $40 billion investment round.

ABC.AZ reports that this transaction has become the largest private financing in the field of technologies.

At that, according to the above-mentioned analytical platform, company's valuation after the round increased to $300 billion, which at the time of writing puts it in second place after SpaceX. The latter is estimated at $350 billion.

The main investor in the round was Japanese company SoftBank, which is actually going to invest up to $30 billion by the end of 2025, and $10 billion will come from a consortium of investors, including Microsoft, Coatue, Altimeter and Thrive.

The terms of the $30 billion investment are to change OpenAI's structure and issue preferred shares by the end of 2025 or early 2026. Otherwise, if these conditions are not met on time, SoftBank will reduce investments to $10 billion.

Information about a potential contribution from SoftBank to OpenAI appeared at the end of January 2025. Sources close to the negotiations reported investments of up to $40 billion.
