November 15, Fineko/abc.az. A lawsuit was filed against American corporation Apple for 3 billion pounds (approx. $ 3.8 bn) in the UK on charges of violating competition law, The Guardian writes.

The lawsuit was filed by the British organization Which?. The application is related to iCloud cloud storage subscriptions. According to the organization, Apple violated British competition law by "giving its iCloud data storage service preferential treatment" and "luring" customers with Apple devices into the "iCloud usage trap".

It is estimated that about 40 million British Apple customers may be eligible for an average payout of 70 pounds ($88) each if the lawsuit is successful. Apple said it rejects the organization's accusations and will "vigorously defend itself" against any lawsuits.

Apple is suspected of violating antitrust laws in the EU and the U.S. In January 2024, The New York Times wrote about the U.S. Department of Justice's investigation into Apple. According to the newspaper, investigators have studied why the Apple Watch works better with the iPhone than with smartphones of other brands, as well as how the corporation blocks competitors' access to its iMessage service.

In early March, the European Commission (EC) fined Apple 1.8 billion euros following an investigation into the fact that the company closed access to its music streaming competitors, including Spotify, to its platforms. The EC said Apple had been abusing its dominant market position "for a decade".
