CBA: Difference on amount of overdue loans is linked with calculation

17:11 - 29.10.2024

October 29, Fineko/abc.az. As of October 1, 2024, according to the credit risk reports of 21 of Azerbaijan's 22 banks, the total amount of overdue loans in the country is at least 962 million manats. However, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) reported that at the end of September overdue loans in the country totaled 480 million manats.

ABC.AZ informs that in response to a question about the reasons for such a difference, the CBA replied that it was due to different approaches:

"The CBA's statistical bulletin is based on the approach of the International Monetary Fund, and the published indicators cover only the overdue part (over 30 days) of the principal debt on the loan. Banks, according to the international practice of banking supervision, include the full balance of the main loan debt in the amount of overdue loans (30+ days). Additionally, we inform you that the CBA publishes monthly statistics on non-performing loans on its website (overdue for more than 90 days). As of September 30, this figure reached 707.3 million manats."
