October 9, Fineko/abc.az. Egypt has launched construction of megalopolis Ras El-Hekma to be twice the size of Barcelona in area.
ABC.AZ reports that nearly 2 million people are expected to live in it, and the total area of the city will be 170 sq km.
Ras El-Hekma is conceived as a "fully functional, smart, sustainable and inclusive space on a picturesque coastline". By 2045, contribution of the megacity to the Egyptian economy should amount to $25 bn a year, 750,000 jobs will be created in it. The megacity will include residential areas, resorts, golf courses, entertainment venues, hospitals, schools, universities, a marina, hotels of international chains.
In addition, a high-speed railway will appear in the new metropolis. An airport will also be constructed so that the road for more than 400 million travelers takes up time within four hours.
