EU revenues from diamond exports fell almost one and a half times in 1st half of 2024

September 6, Fineko/abc.az. The EU's revenues from diamond exports in the first half of 2024 - after the introduction of restrictions on Russian stones — collapsed almost 1/5-fold, and the result became one of the worst in history, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the Eurostat data.

Since the beginning of the year, the European Union has imposed restrictions on the import of non-industrial Russian natural and artificial diamonds directly from Russia. Since March 1, the ban has extended to stones from 1 carat cut in other countries, and from September 1 — from 0.5 carats. As a result, in the 1st half of the year, the EU received 3.2 billion euros from diamond exports, compared with 4.7 billion for Jan-Jun 2023. For the EU, this is the second worst indicator in history – revenues were lower only in the "coronavirus" year 2020 (2.5 billion euros).
