Google plans to build a $850 million data center in Uruguay

August 30, Fineko/abc.az. Google will build a new data center worth $850 million in the city of Canelones, Eduardo Lopez, the president of Google Cloud in Latin America, said in an article published on the Google Blog portal.

ABC.AZ reports that, according to him, Google's Uruguayan data center will be the second in this region. The first center in Latin America was built in Chile in 2015. In this regard, Lopez noted that one of the main goals of Google's development in the region at this stage will be the widespread implementation of services based on artificial intelligence technology, against the background of growing demand for them among the local population.

In this context, the head of the regional division of Google Cloud also announced the corporation's intention to strengthen ties with Uruguayan universities and research centers. The company is already collaborating with the Technological University and the University of Montevideo in the field of technology integration into educational courses. At the same time, key partners of the corporation in Uruguay have become government agencies: the National Development Agency and the National Agency for Research and Innovation.
