April 24, Fineko/abc.az. The European Commission has launched an investigation into ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, on suspicion of violating the Digital Services Act (DSA).
ABC.AZ reports that TikTok Lite, launched this April in France and Spain, allows users to earn points for watching videos, likes and other actions. These points can be exchanged for Amazon certificates or TikTok digital currency, which can be used for gifts to streamers. However, the European Commission expressed concerns that such a mechanism could negatively affect the mental health of minors.
The commission plans to temporarily ban access to app TikTok Lite in the EU during the investigation, but has given the company until April 24, 2024 to challenge this restriction.
It is noted that before the investigation began, the European Commission requested a report from ByteDance on the potential risks of its service within 24 hours, but the company did not respond.
In case of violation of the law, DSA ByteDance can be fined up to 1% of the global turnover per year, and for specific violations of the law - another 5% of the annual turnover.
