April 11, Fineko/abc.az. The Belgian government announced that the kingdom received additional €625 million in 2022 as a result of taxation of income from frozen assets of the Russian Federation for €250 bn, in particular, placed on the Belgium-registered Euroclear site, ABC.AZ reports with reference to newspaper Soir.

"During the last audit of the State Budget, the government suddenly demonstrated a significant amount of unexpected income - €625 million received from taxation of frozen financial assets of Russia," the newspaper says.

According to Soir, €250.6 bn of Russian assets placed through the Euroclear international depository have been frozen in Belgium.

These funds were reinvested by Euroclear, as a result of which the depository received an excess profit of €821 million, which was taxed at an increased rate.

Belgium is also expected to receive income from these assets in 2023, but it will be less than in 2022.
