September 7, Fineko/abc.az. Testing has officially begun at the 1,200 MW unit, according to Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar. The commissioning of the initial reactor will cover up to 2.5% of the country's electricity needs.
The project has been carried out since 2018 by Akkuyu Nuclear, a subsidiary of Russia's Rosatom. Once all four Russian-designed VVER-1200 power units are fully operational, the plant will supply up to 10% of Turkey's total power consumption.
