September 7, Fineko/abc.az. In August 2026, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan intervened in the foreign exchange market to purchase foreign currency for $1.5 billion.
ABC.AZ reports with reference to the CBA that the intervention was carried out under conditions of excess supply over demand in the foreign exchange market against the background of the current account surplus of the balance of payments and the ongoing de-dollarization of the financial sector.
As a result, for the past 8 months of 2026, CBA's foreign exchange reserves increased by $3.8 billion, or 33%, reaching a historic high of $15.3 billion.
The foreign currency purchased on the foreign exchange market can then be fully or partially sent back to the market, depending on the emerging demand to ensure balance.
