September 7, Fineko/abc.az. Russia and North Korea have opened the first automobile bridge across the border of the two countries.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and North Korean Premier of the State Council Park Tae-song attended the opening ceremony of the Tumannaya River crossing via video link.
The length of the two-lane bridge is about 1 kilometer. The bridge is named after the Soviet officer Yakov Novichenko, who saved Kim Il Sung's life in 1946.
At the same time as the bridge, the Khasan automobile checkpoint was built, designed to allow up to 300 vehicles per day and connected to the Ussuri highway.
Before the opening of the bridge, land communication between Russia and the DPRK was carried out exclusively by rail.
