September 5, Fineko/abc.az. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that once geopolitical tensions surrounding Iran abate, global crude oil prices could experience a sharp collapse toward $40 per barrel. The Secretary emphasized that resolving geostrategic risks will trigger a significant supply surplus in energy markets, pushing crude down toward $50 or even $40 per barrel.
Bessent noted that a drop in energy prices will simultaneously cool inflationary pressures and bring down benchmark interest rates and bond yields, which recently touched multi-year record highs. On Friday, Brent crude traded above $95 per barrel—its highest level since July—while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield surged to a maximum not seen since 2023.
