MP: Price increase is unacceptable

February 16, Fineko/abc.az. Both food and non-food products have risen in price in the markets. This is confirmed by both buyers and sellers.

ABC.AZ reports that the increase in prices is mainly observed in personal hygiene products.

Among personal hygiene products, the increase was observed most on the prices of synthetic detergents, soaps and toothpastes, dishwashing detergents, antiperspirants. The price increase is more evident in the prices of products manufactured abroad and imported in Azerbaijan.

This January alone the prices for non-food products increased by 1.5 times. Antiperspirants, which used to cost about 2.50-3 manats, are now sold for 4.50-5 manats. Prices for shampoos increased at least by 3 manats, and for detergents by 4-5 manats.

In the current situation, the question was raised about how much and for how long food prices will rise. On this important topic, we talked with expert economist, MP Vugar Bayramov. According to the expert, in 2023 the inflation rate will be lower than last year:

"It should be taken into account that Azerbaijan is also a country implementing anti-inflationary measures. If there are price spikes in the country, if there is no increase in costs, then monitoring is necessary here. Because it is important to strengthen the monitoring of price growth in the consumer market. Price increases without an economic basis are unacceptable. Growth in prices increases costs, in particular leads to an increase in family budget expenditures.

It is important to expand price monitoring in the consumer market and systematize the fight against artificial price increases so that in 2023 there is no high price growth."
