Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan carriages by rail reach 1.39 million tons

June 17, Fineko/abc.az. The railway transportation between Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan Railways CJSC) and Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan Railways CJSC) reached 1.39 million tons over Jan-May 2022, ABC.AZ reports with reference to Kazakhstan Railways.

The indicator is by 1.88 million tons or 4.6-fold (364%) more against the same period of 2021. The growth was formed mainly due to grain transportation (128,300 tons or 6.1-fold more). At that, transportation of petroleum products and ferrous metals between the two countries grew by 884,600 tons, or 13.5-fold, and chemicals and soda by 72,800 tons, or 115%. The growth of food products in transit traffic reached 3,100 tons or 2%.

According to the Azerbaijan Center for Agrarian Research, for Jan-May 2022, Azerbaijan imported 146,900 tons of grain for $49.1 million from Kazakhstan. Compared with Jan-May 2020 (6,300 tons), the imports increased by 23.3 times and in value terms almost by 29 times.

The share of Kazakh grain in imports to Azerbaijan made up 41.1%.
