October 22, Fineko/abc.az. McDonald's contributed 129 million mnats to Azerbaijan's GDP in 2025, while its operations supported 7,050 jobs across various sectors of the economy.
These figures are presented in a study by international consulting firm Oxford Economics, published in June 2026.
The assessment covers not only the direct operations of the restaurant chain but also its purchases of goods and services from local suppliers, as well as the spending of employees of the company and businesses associated with it. These activities stimulate economic activity in related sectors, including agriculture, food processing, transportation and services. Employee spending, in turn, supports retail and other segments of the domestic market.
Purchases from local suppliers were among the key factors contributing to the company's economic impact. In 2025, McDonald's purchased goods and services worth 54.6 million manats from Azerbaijani suppliers.
An important step in developing local production was McDonald's Azerbaijan's full transition to sourcing beef from domestic producers in 2025. According to Oxford Economics, the activities of farms and processing companies supplying the restaurant chain are associated with approximately 2,100 jobs.
In addition, during the year, the company spent 10.8 million manats on goods and services provided by businesses involved in opening new restaurants and renovating existing ones.
According to the study, McDonald's employment impact extends across a wide range of sectors, from agriculture and food production to retail, construction and transportation. Overall, company's operations supported 7,050 jobs across the country's economy.
McDonald's Azerbaijan itself employed 2,935 people in 2025. Women accounted for 49% of its workforce, while 67% of employees were young people aged 15 to 24. For many, working at McDonald's represents their first employment experience and the beginning of their professional careers.
Over the course of the year, employees obtained approximately 700 qualifications through the company's internal training programmes, covering everything from basic operational skills to management training.
The study also highlights McDonald's contribution to social and environmental initiatives. In 2025, the company allocated more than 120,000 manats to scholarships, social programmes and environmental projects. It also provided 5,000 meals for children's events across the country. In addition, company employees contributed 400 hours of volunteer work dedicated to environmental protection.
The economic impact assessment was conducted by Oxford Economics using an independent methodology. The company specialises in economic analysis and forecasting and works with governments, international organisations and businesses in more than 200 countries.
Commenting on the findings, Stephen Foreman, Deputy Director at Oxford Economics, said that McDonald's contributes to the development of local businesses and communities across Azerbaijan by stimulating economic activity through job creation, the development of franchising and cooperation with local suppliers.
McDonald's has been operating in Azerbaijan for more than 25 years. McDonald's Azərbaycan CJSC owns and operates the chain's restaurants in the country. The network currently comprises 34 restaurants, which serve more than 20 million customers annually.
