April 12, Fineko/abc.az. SOCAR is interested in acquiring the majority of shares of Serbian oil company NIS.

ABC.AZ reports that SOCAR is in contact with the government of Serbia, as well as with the main owner of NIS, Russian state-owned company Gazpromneft.

Since the beginning of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, Russia has come under the economic sanctions of the West.

According to the report, this raises concerns about how NIS can supply the Pancevo refinery with crude oil through the territory of the European Union.

51% of NIS shares belong to Russian state–run company Gazpromneft, the rest belongs to the Serbian government.
