October 30, Fineko/abc.az. Delivering speech at the 11th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said that development of relations with Georgia is one of the priorities of Azerbaijan's foreign policy.
According to the PM, strategic partnership between our peoples, who have been living in friendship for centuries, has recently risen to a qualitatively new level.
The PM stressed that high-level political dialogue plays a leading role in strengthening cooperation. In this regard, the state visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Georgia in April and the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Azerbaijan in May within the framework of WUF13 gave an additional impetus to the deepening of ties, confirming the strategic nature of relations. Asadov noted that the countries always support each other in international organizations, especially in matters of territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Touching upon the positive dynamics of trade and economic relations, the PM noted that Georgia is one of Azerbaijan's main trading partners. In the first 9 months of this year, the bilateral trade turnover increased by 42%, exceeding the total figure of last year and approaching $1 bn. High results have also been achieved in the investment sector - Azerbaijan is the largest investor in the Georgian economy, and the volume of those investments has already reached $4 billion.
