October 30, Fineko/abc.az. Disruptions in the international market of petroleum products are forcing Kyrgyzstan to look for alternative fuel sources and delivery routes. Previously, the country imported nearly 95% of fuels and lubricants from Russia, but supply cuts and logistics complications increased the risks of shortages.
According to President of the Association of Oil Traders of Kyrgyzstan Kanatbek Eshatov, companies have started buying fuel in Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Turkey and European countries. At that, alternative supplies require additional transportation and financial costs.
Currently, a liter of gasoline AI-92 costs about 89 soms, but its cost is 30-32 soms higher. The difference is covered by the government through subsidies, restraining the growth of retail prices.
Close to 40 importing companies operate in Kyrgyzstan. To meet the monthly needs of the country, they need working capital in the amount of at least $ 100 million.
In parallel, negotiations are underway on supplies through Kazakhstan. Russian companies continue to export fuel with payments in national currencies. Kyrgyzstan is also developing cooperation with Azerbaijan, from where small, mainly seasonal volumes of petroleum products are still coming.
