October 29, Fineko/abc.az. The Central Bank of Azerbaijan will support the consolidation process in the banking sector next year, if such a process takes place.

CBA governor Taleh Kazimov stated at a media conference that the merger of large banks can strengthen the competitive environment in the financial market: "As the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, we support consolidation, as we believe that if we look at the structure of the financial sector, the consolidation of two or three large banks can increase competition. This is exactly what we expect. If there are any measures or plans for consolidation next year, we will support them. Of course, ensuring competition in the financial sector is also of great importance. At the moment, we have no such plans for this year. If there are any changes next year, we will provide information about it."
