July 23, Fineko/abc.az. The Donald Trump administration has received over $13 billion from the sale of Venezuelan oil since the beginning of the year, but a significant portion of the funds remains opaque, raising concerns among US lawmakers, reports the Financial Times.

Following the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January, the United States effectively assumed control of Venezuela's oil exports. While the proceeds formally remain the property of Venezuela, Washington manages the funds.

US President Donald Trump previously stated that the US was receiving substantial revenues from Venezuelan oil. In April, the State Department reported that approximately $3 billion had already been funneled to Venezuela; however, the official public tracking portal details only a single transfer—a $300 million payment made in March.

While US officials maintain that "billions of dollars" have been injected into the Venezuelan economy, specific figures and line-item allocations have not been publicly disclosed.

Questions surrounding the transparency of oil revenues have intensified following devastating earthquakes in Venezuela this past June. According to UN estimates, damage to the country's infrastructure and buildings reached approximately $37 billion, fueling further debate over the oversight and deployment of the oil funds.
