July 21, Fineko/abc.az. Citigroup strategists have cut their long position in Turkish 2-year government bonds maturing in 2027 by half, pointing to the surge in Brent crude toward $90 per barrel.
Citi strategist Bhumika Gupta noted that Turkey remains highly exposed to energy supply shocks amid escalating US-Iran conflict dynamics. The decision comes ahead of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's (CBRT) upcoming policy meeting, where officials face a balancing act between interest rate normalization and oil-driven inflation risks. Gupta also cautioned that historical seasonality renders August particularly volatile for emerging market carry trades.
