Kyrgyzstan Eyes Construction of a 330 MW Small Nuclear Power Plant to Offset Energy Deficit

17:00 - 20.06.2026

June 20, Fineko/abc.az. Kyrgyzstan is considering a strategic infrastructure proposal to construct a small-scale nuclear power plant (NPP) with an installed capacity of 330 MW to buffer the country’s domestic power supply grids.

According to ABC.AZ, the project pipeline was disclosed by Dmitry Konstantinov, Director General of "Rosatom Kyrgyzstan," during the international "Energy Expo Kyrgyzstan — SCO 2026" trade fair. Konstantinov noted that the facility would function as a baseline generation system, producing up to 2.5 billion kWh of electricity per annum.

Core Technical and Economic Vectors:

  • Weather-Independent Output: The executive emphasized that power generation at a small modular nuclear facility remains completely independent of climate and weather shifts. The facility is engineered to insulate Kyrgyzstan's critical infrastructure networks—including major urban centers, healthcare systems, and industrial complexes—enabling stable macroeconomic expansion.

  • The Exhibition Profile: "Energy Expo Kyrgyzstan — SCO 2026" marks a primary regional international showcase focused on engineering technologies, heavy industrial equipment, and structural power solutions. The current session features active participation from over 40 technical corporations representing Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, India, Belarus, Turkey, and Vietnam.
