June 3, Fineko/abc.az. Companies from the Czech Republic (EPH), Canada (CPPIB), Norway (Equinor) and France (TotalEnergies) are bidding to buy 74.12% of Uniper shares (about $11.65 billion). Fortum (Finland) and Vattenfall (Sweden) are targeting the company's hydroelectric power plants and nuclear power plants in Sweden, and RWE (Germany) may also join the bidding process.
ABC.AZ informs that applications are accepted until June 12. The main stages of the deal: the second round in the summer, signing in the fall. A partial sale to a strategic investor is possible, followed by the withdrawal of the remaining shares to the market.
In 2022, the German government saved Uniper from collapse due to termination of gas supplies from the Russian Federation by investing about €13.5 billion and bringing its share to 99%.
According to EU rules, by the end of 2028, Berlin is required to reduce its equity participation to 25% plus one share. Currently, the company's market value is estimated at €8.8–11.4 billion, but the authorities admit that it will most likely have to be sold at a discount.
