May 21, Fineko/abc.az. Over Jan-Apr 2026, country’s butter production totaled 7,946.3 tons (8.6% less against Jan-Apr 2025).
ABC.AZ reports that for the first time in recent years, butter imports exceeded domestic production.
For comparison, for Jan-Apr 2025, production reached 8,689.6 tons, in 2024 - 8,912.8 tons, in 2023 - 8,938.8 tons. The decrease is also linked with a drop in the raw material base.
According to the State Statistics Committee, as of April 1, 2026, the number of cattle in the country amounted to 1,209,908 heads against 1,220,048 heads a year earlier. Milk production for the past 4 months reached 701,600 tons (against 701,900 tons a year earlier).
Amid a decline in domestic production, the bulk of demand is covered by imports. According to the State Customs Committee, for Jan-Apr 2026, the country imported 9,077 tons of butter for $57.48 million (Jan-Apr 2025 - 7,936 tons).
