May 8, Fineko/abc.az. Amid the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, Turkey is trying to establish itself as a key energy center between Europe, the Middle East and Asia, ABC.AZ informs, referring to Focus Online.
The crisis is hitting the global economy and exacerbating Europe's energy supply problems, while opening up new opportunities for Ankara.
Declining confidence in supplies from the Persian Gulf is increasing interest in land routes. Expansion of the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline, construction of new lines from Basra to the Mediterranean Sea, possible restoration of Kirkuk-Baniyas route and Qatar-Turkey gas pipeline project are planned in the region.
Key energy routes are already passing through Turkey: TANAP, Turkish Stream, as well as Iran-Turkey gas pipeline and LNG terminals.
Country's strategy goes beyond energy and includes the Middle Corridor, a trade route from China through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus to Europe. Ankara hopes to transform itself from a transit country into a geo-economic center.
The crisis is accelerating the restructuring of global flows: the importance of land routes is growing, and countries with advantageous positions are increasing their influence. Turkey intends to use this moment to become one of the centers of the new energy order.
