EU increases imports of Russian LNG amid supply disruptions from Qatar

April 10, Fineko/abc.az. The European Union has increased imports of Russian liquefied natural gas, ABC.AZ reports, referring to The Financial Times.

Shipments in the first quarter increased by 17% against Q1 of 2025. Their volume amounted to 5 million tons. At the same time, 1.8 million tons were delivered in March.

Speech is about gas supplies from Yamal LNG. According to the newspaper, they cost €2.88 billion for the EU.

Yamal LNG is the main supplier of Russian LNG to Europe. In the 1st quarter, its share made up 97% of overall supplies. Last year the indicator was 87%.

Russian gas supplies are growing amid disruptions in gas supplies from Qatar. They began as a result of the fighting in the Middle East and Iran's strikes on QatarEnergy facilities. Before the start of the war, more than 30% of the world's LNG supplies passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
