April 1, Fineko/abc.az. China, the largest importer of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, was at the same time one of the countries best prepared for its possible closure, ABC.AZ reports with reference to Reuters.
Despite the huge volume of imports from the Persian Gulf, Beijing has reduced vulnerability due to supply diversification, increased domestic production and the accumulation of significant oil reserves. It is estimated that the reserves will last for about seven months.
Additional stability is provided by the active development of electric vehicles, which is why fuel consumption in the country has already reached a peak and turned out to be lower than previous forecasts.
China's energy system relies heavily on its own coal and rapidly growing renewable sources, which cover almost all of the new electricity demand.
Unlike other Asian countries, China does not depend on a single oil supplier, receiving it from several countries at once, which also reduces the risks in the event of a crisis.
