July 29, Fineko/abc.az. The Kazakh authorities have reached an agreement to exclude transactions with Russian ports for the transit of Kazakh coal to the EU countries from the ban, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the Ministry of Trade & Integration of Kazakhstan.
"In February 2025, as part of the 16th package of EU sanctions, a ban was imposed on any transactions with a range of Russian ports. This has led to a threat to the sustainability of Kazakh coal exports to European countries," the Ministry says.
Kazakhstan has submitted an official petition to the European Commission, and amendments have been made to the 18th package of sanctions. At the same time, coal must originate exclusively from Kazakhstan. The ownership of the cargo must belong to non-residents of countries subject to restrictive measures, ports can only be used as a territory of transit, loading or dispatch.
