May 12, Fineko/abc.az. Today, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law on ratification of the agreement with the UAE on the construction of a 1 GW wind power plant in Zhambyl region.

ABC.AZ informs that the project envisages a 600 MWh energy storage system to equalize the flow of electricity between peak wind load time and lull.

Emirati companies Masdar and W Solar will receive 40% of the shares, Kazakh holding Samruk-Energo will receive 18%, and the Kazakh Investment Development Fund will receive another 2%. The agreement was signed in December 2023. Kazakhstan has pledged to compensate investors for unforeseen expenses and to prevent construction that interferes with wind flows.

Vice Minister of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov said earlier that starting in 2024, the country plans to reduce electricity imports from Russia and export by 2027.
