Microsoft invests $297 million to promote artificial intelligence in South Africa

March 10, Fineko/abc.az. Microsoft has announced its intention to invest almost 5.5 billion rands ($297 million) in development of cloud services and artificial intelligence in South Africa, ABC.AZ informs, quoting company's vice president Brad Smith at a presentation in Johannesburg.

These investments are to be made by 2027, which will be in addition to the 20.4 billion rands already spent earlier. The country’s government expects that such investments will help accelerate economic development, which in recent years has not exceeded one percent per annum.

Of the total investments, part will be directed to educational programs to train 50,000 young professionals in the field of digital technologies. During the year, they will be able to receive free certification, which is expected to stimulate innovation processes and the opening of new jobs.
