February 20, Fineko/abc.az. U.S. President Donald Trump said that his administration intends to ensure the availability and accuracy of accounting for the significant U.S. gold reserves stored at Fort Knox, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Bloomberg.
"We hope that Fort Knox is okay, but we’ll go there to make sure that the gold is in place," Trump told journalists aboard Air Force One en route to Washington from Miami.
The president's comments came amid speculation about possible revaluation of U.S. gold reserves. However, according to informed sources, this concept is not being considered seriously by Trump's leading economic advisers.
Speculation relates to the idea of re-linking the treasury's gold reserves to a higher level, which could bring additional funds to the government. Such a move would require Congressional approval.
