October 1, Fineko/abc.az. The European Commission and the Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) network have launched coordinated investigations into 9 video game companies to assess whether in-game purchases and virtual currencies comply with EU consumer protection laws.

The probe focuses on ensuring transparent pricing for virtual currencies, preventing manipulative upselling tactics, enforcing 14-day withdrawal rights, and protecting vulnerable groups, particularly children.

The target companies include Crytek, InnoGames, King, Mojang, Plarium Europe, PLR Worldwide Sales, Riot Games, Supercell, and Ubisoft—covering titles such as Candy Crush Saga, Minecraft, Clash of Clans, and Valorant. Additionally, Activision Blizzard UK faces a separate inquiry concerning Diablo Immortal and Call of Duty Mobile regarding data privacy, deceptive game design, and dark patterns.
