Nokia may sell its mobile network equipment business

11:30 - 30.08.2024

August 30, Fineko/abc.az. Finnish Nokia Oyj is discussing options for the future of its mobile network equipment division with advisors, which has already attracted interest from Samsung Electronics.

According to ABC.AZ, the value of this division as a whole could be around $10 billion, sources note.

They say Nokia is considering various scenarios - from selling the entire division or part of it, to spinning off this business into an independent company or merging it with a competitor.

The division supplies base stations, radio technologies and servers to mobile operators worldwide. Last year, it accounted for about 44% of Nokia's total revenue.

However, the business in this area is experiencing difficulties due to high competition, as well as weakening demand, especially in Europe, where network modernization is being postponed due to its high cost.

According to sources, Samsung has preliminarily indicated that it is interested in buying part of the Finnish company's assets. Nokia has not yet made a decision regarding the future of the division, but if it announces plans to sell it, other competitors may also show interest.

Nokia shares rose 5.1% at the end of trading on Thursday. Since the beginning of this year, their value has increased by 30.4%.
