Volume of swap gas imported by Azerbaijan from Turkmenistan reduced

July 16, Fineko/abc.az. The volume of swap gas imported by Azerbaijan from Turkmenistan in the first 5 months of 2024 decreased by 49% compared with the 2023 same term.

ABC.AZ reports that these figures are reflected in the official data.

Thus, Azerbaijan imported 294.8 million cu m of natural gas from Central Asian countries in the period from January to May.

Azerbaijan paid $44.2 million to Turkmenistan for this natural gas. Over Jan-May 2023, Turkmenistan sold 583.5 million cu m of natural gas to Azerbaijan and paid $86.9 million for it. Azerbaijan imports natural gas from Turkmenistan through Iran.

Turkmenistan exports natural gas to Iran, and Iran transfers these volumes to the Azerbaijani side on the basis of an exchange. This agreement is being implemented on the basis of an agreement between the leaders of the three countries concluded in November 2021 in Ashgabat.
