Banks lower giving of loans to medium-sized businesses

May 3, Fineko/abc.az. The volume of loans given to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Azerbaijan has continued to decline in the last two quarters.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Central Bank that the volume of loans given by commercial banks to medium-sized businesses in the first quarter of 2024 decreased by 433 million manats or 20% to 1.717 bn manats, and the volume of loans given to small businesses — by 121 million manats or 7.65% - to 1.464 bn manats.

Loans given to entities of both businesses have been declining over the past two quarters.

As of April 1, 2024, Azerbaijan has 13.2 bn manats of business loans (584.75 million manats, or 5% more than at the beginning of the year).
