Turkish banks close accounts of Russian companies

10:30 - 1.02.2024

February 1, Fineko/abc.az. Some banks from Türkiye have started closing accounts for Russian clients.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to Kommersant that the requirements for individuals in Türkiye have been increased. After the release of the US president's decree on secondary sanctions in December 2023, Turkish banks began to refuse to work with Russian banks everywhere.

Russian companies receive notifications with a recommendation to end all relationships and close the account within a certain time. State banks continue to make separate payments in national currencies for goods from the "green list", which includes food and pharmaceutical products.

The service of corporate clients with Russian roots has been stopped, regardless of the country of registration. Russian companies have been advised to complete transactions with Turkish banks and close accounts.

This primarily concerns businesses that used Türkiye as a transit country for settlements and supplies, as well as oil and gas traders.
