Brazil decides to block Telegram

April 27, Fineko/abc.az. A Brazilian court has ruled to block the Telegram application in the country, ABC.AZ reports with reference to portal G1.

The federal police of the country filed a petition, not satisfied with the data provided by the administration of the messenger within cooperation with the investigation. A relevant order to block the operation of the application will be sent to mobile operators and administrators of mobile app stores by the end of the day, the portal clarifies.

In particular, law enforcement agencies demanded that Telegram hand over to them the data of participants and administrators of neo-Nazi groups allegedly involved in attacks on educational institutions. However, according to law enforcement officers, they did not receive the mobile phone numbers of the messenger users.

In addition to blocking, the court also issued Telegram a fine of 1 million reals (about $200,000) per day for not providing data to law enforcement, the portal clarifies.
