February 1, Fineko/abc.az. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a deal to acquire Bungie, the developer behind game franchises including Halo and Destiny.

Bloomberg reports that Sony acquires 100% of Bungie shares, and the deal amount will be $3.6 bn.

Bungie notes that it will continue to release games independently.

Bungie was founded in 1991 and originally specialized in games for Macintosh computers. In 2000, after it introduced the Halo: Combat Evolved shooter, Microsoft acquired the company, and the Halo series became one of the iconic ones for its Xbox game consoles.

Bungie split from Microsoft in 2007.

Last week, Microsoft bought game developer Activision Blizzard for about $68.7 bn.

The trend towards consolidation in the field of video games appeared due to the strong growth in demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
