November 5, Fineko/abc.az. According to the State Statistics Committee, for Jan-Sept 2026, the total number of overnight stays of foreign tourists in Azerbaijan reached 5.829 million.

However, only about a third of this number - 1.875 million overnight stays (32.2%) - accounted for hotels and hotel-type facilities.

Thus, nearly 4 million overnight stays of foreign tourists in the country took place outside the hotel sector.

In particular, 859,400 overnight stays (14.7%) accounted for rented houses, 1.154 million for homes of relatives and friends, and 1.94 million for apartments owned by tourists or their family members. The last two categories together accounted for 53.1% of all overnight stays.

Experts note that it would be wrong to attribute all overnight stays outside the hotel sector to the commercial rental market, since a significant part of them falls on the personal housing of tourists themselves or their loved ones.

For comparison, in neighboring Georgia, in the third quarter of 2025, the share of overnight stays by foreign visitors in hotels was 44.8%, which is higher than in Azerbaijan.

In Turkey, foreign visitors spent 154.8 million overnight stays in licensed accommodation facilities in 2025. However, a comparable percentage figure covering all types of accommodation has not been confirmed, so it is impossible to make a direct comparison.
