October 29, Fineko/abcnews. The Italian government has approved a €26 billion expansionary budget plan aimed at supporting middle-income earners and reinforcing the national healthcare system.
Under the plan presented by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, additional tax levies will be imposed on highly profitable industries to fund budget expenditures. The financial and insurance sectors are expected to contribute over €5 billion, while the energy and gambling sectors will yield an additional €700 million each.
The generated revenue will allow allocating €3,4 billion to the National Health Fund alongside tax cuts for middle-income workers. Driven by the expansionary measures, Italy's budget deficit-to-GDP ratio is projected to rise to 3.4%.
