October 1, Fineko/abc.az. Constellation Energy and Amazon have signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which should support investments in expansion of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Maryland.

Reuters informs that the deal envisages more than $3 billion in investments in state's energy infrastructure and addition of nearly 190 MW of new carbon-free generating capacity.

The agreement provides for the supply of 690 MW of electricity to Amazon from the Calvert Cliffs NPP, including close to 190 MW of additional capacity, which is to be commissioned in 2030-2032. Thus, the contract covers both the current generation and the planned increase in station's capacity.

Calvert Cliffs has two power units with total capacity of 1,790 MW. The plant is located in Lusby on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and is the only NPP in Maryland.
